Is the Surf UP right now?
Now you can tell whether the surf is up just by checking your computer at home.
A buoy just three miles west of Dana Point uses sensors to measure wave heights
and direction. Each hour, the information is radioed first to a shore station
and then to Scripps Institution of Oceanography where it goes right into a web
page - cdip.ucsd.edu - that anyone can view.

How to Read the Dana Point Wave Charts
Hs :
Height of waves - averages the highest 1/3 of all waves in 30 minutes.
Tp :
Period of the waves - the time in seconds between wave peaks.
Dp :
Wave Direction - measured in degrees like a compass (e.g. 180 degrees
tells you waves are coming from the south).
