Title July 2017 Sand Level Measurements in Nearshore Southern California.

Abstract This JUMBO Survey data set contains 5-column ASCII survey point data from a strip of San Diego County Coastline (including: back beach, beach and swash zone and offshore to approximately 10 meters) from Coronado State Beach. Terrestrial data was collected using an ATV (Yamaha Grizzly) survey system mounted with GPS receiver and a hand pushed dolly. Offshore data were collected with a GPS and sonar equipped jetski. The survey consisted of 15 cross-shore tracks (~ 200m horizontal spacing) collected from approximately 1 hour prior to and after low tide and also around the high tide. One GPS base station (On site at a surveyed location near main Lifegaurd tower) was in operation during the survey. The Integrative Oceanography Department, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD owns and operates the survey systems. NOTE: Starting 20070829, a fifth column of substrate data has been added. See the Supplemental Information for details. Starting Jan 1, 2017, our survey data sets were updated from NAD83(CORS96) epoch 2002.00 to NAD83(2011) epoch 2010.00. Also, the vertical datum for survey data was updated from NAVD88 GEOID99 to GEOID12B starting on 15 March 2017. See details file for more information.

Purpose The data described in this document will be compared with forthcoming data sets to determine rates of shoreline change along the San Diego County Coastline and as a ground truth for simultaneous Lidar surveys as scheduled.

Supplemental_Information Terrestrial (ATV) systems utilize Trimble Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers (NetR9) to provide platform positioning. The GPS receivers record dual frequency pseudo-range and carrier phase information at 5Hz for post-processing. Orientation is determined with a SBG Systems Ellipse-A gyro recording roll, pitch and yaw at 10 Hz. In addition to post-processed data, 5 Hz real-time kinematic carrier phase differentially corrected data are also acquired as a navigation aid and as a supplement to post-processed data The data files are comprised of five columns: Lat, Lon, Z(rel. to MSL), DateTime(UTC), Substrate type. The Substrate type is defined by a numeric code: 0 = No data, 1 = Sand, 2 = Cobbles, 3 = Bedrock. The substrate type was identified by the ATV driver at the time of the survey.

New Waverunner Driver: Brian Woodward Beach Support: Lucian, Rob ATV Drivers & Dolly Pushers: Brian, Lucian, Rob Low tide was -1.2 ft @ 04:46 am PDT. High tide was 4.5 ft @ 11:11 am PDT. Wave conditions were < 1 m. Panasonic ToughPad was used for ATV and Waverunner display. New Trimble NetR9 GPS rovers sampled at 5Hz for ATV/Dolly and Waverunner. Data processed and QCd by Lucian Notes: Bill came down with supplies tools to troubleshoot jetski. Used wire to jumper 12 V on circuit board. Still made hight tide and soldered the jumper wire upon return to Scripps at end of day. New Red ATV was used for this survey. New Trimble NetR9 GPS recievers were used for this survey. No RTK. ATV data was processed in matlab with gyro corrections using atvgeoidall. Processed using new Trimble base antenna (TRM57971.00)

Process_Description Transfer raw GPS data from both base station and rover Trimble GPS receivers to processing computer. Waypoint Consulting's Grafnav program processes the dual frequency GPS data for an NAD83 solution. Matlab programs then adjust the position and elevation by using the gyro data.
