Web products: Recent Nowcast Page

This page provides access to all of the products generated by CDIP's California Swell Models. For details about the swell models and answers to frequently-asked questions, please refer to the swell model description page.

Note that all swell model products use Pacific Standard Time (PST) and units of feet. User-selected timezones and units are not used.

Regional models

Wave height maps generated from offshore buoy readings. The maps only include swell with a period of 8 seconds or greater; local wind seas are not modeled.

Local models

Identical to the regional models, except that higher resolution is provided in nearshore waters. For the main Southern California model, the map resolution is 800m; in the local models, the resolution is 200m wherever the water depth is less than 60m.

Wave height plots

Plots of alongcoast swell height. Like the models, these plots do not include local seas. Note that the height values given are not breaking wave heights, but rather the significant swell height at a depth of 10m.

Sea and swell models

Models that include both sea and swell. Using nearshore buoys to measure local seas, these models do not model swell alone. Instead, they model both sea and swell, including waves with periods under 8 seconds.
